The Ephemerist Redsign Project

After a short introductory project in the summer of Year One, our first 'official' project of our Editorial design module was to produce a redesign of The Ephemerist, the magazine of The Ephemera Society.

Third Time Lucky

At the moment, it's proving difficult not to think about how quickly the last two years have flown by and how inevitable it is that my last academic year, or more specifically final nine months, at university will do the same.

With third year in full swing, current ventures include the exciting opportunity to create an independent visual culture magazine as part of one of my modules (which is also giving me some food for thought about my upcoming career decisions), giving myself a crash course in perception and cognition and deciding that I would really, really love to learn German after visiting it for the first time on my travels over the summer.

Other aims for this year include not driving people mad with the many rounds of experiments which will accompany my dissertation, learning how to properly pronounce the word 'Haupbtbahnhof' and learning hot to take a photo in the studio with out including one of my feet (see the above picture for details).

Crystals

Inspiration can come from some slightly odd places. In this case,  walking the dog.

It wasn't really that I'd seen anything relating to what I made, just that I'd been turning over a few ideas for something after listening to Of Monster's and Men's new single, Crystals, and trying to sort out something to put on paper (or screen).

Elsewhere on the Interweb

I've seen some neat little posts around elsewhere on the interweb, where blog authors share some of the cool things they've found while perusing (One Sheepish Girl's The Blush List is probably my favourite). So I thought, 'I spend a pretty obscene amount of time online. I occasionally find some cool things (in my opinion anyways), let's give this a go'.

And thus, here is my collection of coolish crap I've found laying around online. Hope you enjoy!

5 Questions for 100 Designers
This rather insightful blog popped up on my twitter feed via Pentagram Design. The clue really is in the name; 100 designers will eventually have the same five questions in a mirco-interview.

Also, Bickford-Smith's Clothbound Classics for Penguin are stunning! (And plus she's an alumna of my uni, which is even cooler!)

Little Lightning Lamp

This little lightning lamp is nothing short of gorgeous in its gloominess. And that's coming from someone who spent the first 13 years of their life hiding from thunderstorms behind the sofa. You can read a little bit more about the lamp and the chap who designed it here
